Research Scientist I, Protein Expression & conjugation in Buffalo, NY Albany Molecular Research Inc. provides global contract research and manufacturing services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. The Research Scientist I's role is to support the development, production and characterization of recombinant proteins and protein conjugates. They are expected to work under supervisory direction. The Research Scientist I is expected to develop competency in many aspects of practical molecular biology, microbiology, protein purification and protein chemistry within the first 12 months of their employment and assist the senior members of the Protein Expression & Conjugation laboratory group. A major component of the scientist's rating will be based on productivity, teamwork and cooperation. RESPONSIBILITIES Develop the practical knowledge base, skills and experience required to execute developed DNA production, cell transfection, fermentation, induction, purification and assay procedures independently within 12 months of starting employment. With supervisory guidance, aid in the generation of new DNA production, cell transfection, fermentation, induction, purification and assay procedures as may be required. As opportunities allow and with supervisory guidance develop the practical knowledge base, skills and experience required to execute protein conjugation studies and conduct conjugation reaction screens. Practice good aseptic technique and maintain up to date, excellent documentation of experiments conducted and their outcomes within the AMRI lab notebook system (ELN). Be familiar with the use and operation of all laboratory equipment and software used by the Protein Expression & Conjugation group. Establish independence in use of all the equipment within one year of starting employment. Regularly discuss the status of assigned programs and potential problems with the supervisor. The latter is especially important in cases where the scientist may be unfamiliar with the reagents or conditions to be employed. Volunteer for various tasks within the laboratories not related to your project. Conduct laboratory operations in a safe manner. Maintain familiarity with the Chemical Hygiene and Biosafety Plans. Exhibit safety awareness and safe work practices. Follow responsible actions regarding chemical, radiological and biohazard disposal. Maintain compliance with all regulations at the federal, state and local levels. Maintain a professional demeanor. Participate in self-development activities and cross-training. Recommend and with appropriate approval implement methods to increase the quality of products and/or services. Perform other duties as may be reasonably assigned in the course of business.Education and/or Experience * College Degree with major in science or equivalent relevant experience * Biohazard/blood-borne pathogen training * Computer training in the use of standard office software applicationsShift: Standard 8
