Research Scientist I, High Content Assay Development & Screening in Buffalo, NY Albany Molecular Research Inc. provides global contract research and manufacturing services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. The Research Scientist I is expected to work under supervisory direction. Principal responsibilities will include assistance in the development, optimization and validation of in vitro models of various complex diseases and downstream target-specific assays. As experience develops and opportunities arise the Research Scientist I will be expected to learn and may assist in: the development of cell-based reagents and assays for testing of natural product and synthetic samples; automation of assays and high throughput screening using High Content Screening (HCS) and other assay formats; mammalian cell culture and differentiation; potency and selectivity testing; analysis and interpretation of assay development, high throughput screening and potency data. RESPONSIBILITIES Assist in the development, optimization and validation of in vitro models of complex disease and their transfer to robotic systems for high throughput screening. Assist in the development of in vitro, pathway and target specific assays for the evaluation of compounds. Assist in the development of custom reagents for development of in vitro assays. Assist in the development and testing of automated procedures. Assist in the prosecution of high throughput screening campaigns and generation of high quality screening data. Maintain comprehensive, up to date records of experimental methods, materials, calculations, results, observations and outcomes (decisions) in compliance with AMRI laboratory notebook policy. Record all appropriate data electronically in AMRI databases. Develop and effectively apply a broad spectrum of practical laboratory skills; including molecular biology; cell culture; pipetting & reagent preparation; electrophoresis; biochemistry; assay development; and appropriate analysis of experimental outcomes. Conduct laboratory operations in a safe manner. Maintain familiarity with the AMRI Chemical Hygiene Plan, Biosafety and Blood Borne Pathogen procedures and Radiation Safety Procedures handbook. Exhibit safety awareness and safe work practices. Effectively utilize standard laboratory equipment including hand pipettes, balances, pH meters, plate readers and calculators. Use and maintain equipment in a neat and orderly manner. Report any malfunction immediately to supervisor. Practice preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment and replenish laboratory supplies as stock is depleted to prevent "down-time". Submit acceptable written periodic reports. Prepare summaries of experimental findings reliably and independently. Carry routine tasks independently through to successful completion. Communicate orally and in writing unexpected occurrences which could adversely affect established timetables. Follow responsible actions regarding chemical, radiological and biological disposal. Maintain compliance with all regulations at the federal, state, and local levels. Education and/or Experience Bachelors or Masters Degree with a major in Biology or Biochemistry, or equivalent.
