TITLE: Segment Chief Financial Officer - Commercial Bank LOCATION: Baltimore, MD, Buffalo, NY or any commercial center in the M&T footprint FUNCTION: Responsible for all financial activities of a designated division(s) by overseeing the segment finance responsibilities, sales reporting, incentive plan administration and serving as the lead financial liaison to external examiners. Sets financial strategies and direction for the line of business, acts as a member of the division's senior leadership team and brings perspective from both an internal to M&T and a market/industry platform. Maintains an environment of strong compliance and risk management. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Builds a 3 year strategic plan that establishes the direction of the business, products and markets. This is accomplished by consistent analysis of the market place/competition; leadership direction of the organization and identification of client needs. Maintain a culture of compliance and risk management while adding value to shareholders. Oversees and sets strategy for the division's Segment Finance team. This team produces monthly Profit and Loss statements with analysis and explanation to business leaders. Assists in the development of the business plan. Monitors the business performance in accordance with industry/market/plan and year over year growth. In regards to new products, services or market initiatives, team builds pro forma and understanding of business drivers. Manages coordination with the CCAR initiative. Oversees the division's Sales Reporting function. Provides reporting on sales results, pipeline and lost business (both experienced and anticipated) at a detailed level on a monthly/weekly basis to sales team, sales support, sales leaders and business leaders. Utilize presentations produced by sales reporting team with an amalgamation of their analysis to the bank's or legal entities board, ALCO, and Trust and Investment Committees. Oversees and sets strategies for the division's incentive plan Design/Administration/Control Team and shares with the division's Incentive Plan Risk Committee. Leads the incentive plan to build a sales incentive designed to reward behaviors consistent with what the business wants to build in order to achieve the necessary sales goals. Manage every area of the incentive plan with the objective of maintaining controls on the program so that the plan is tied to bank performance, division performance and individual performance. Serves as the primary finance contact to external examiners as required. Works with the Regulatory Affairs department in interfacing with examiners in regards to financial results, sales and lost business. The Segment CFO ensures that there is collaboration with the sales reporting team. Exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management and terminations. Understand and adhere to the Company's risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company's Risk Appetite. Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management. Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand. Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable. Complete other related duties as assigned. NATURE AND SCOPE: This role is a strategic partner to the executive of the division(s) and participates as a member of the division's senior leadership team in setting the financial direction and strategy of the business that grows both top and bottom line while operating within stated risk limits. MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Manages a team of 4 managers and up to 40 individuals. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or business administration and a minimum of 12 years' bank experience, or in lieu of degree, a combined minimum of 16 years' higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 12 years' bank experience.
